Common Cup Selection Knowledge

2024-05-06

Choose the cup carefully. If you choose the wrong cup, it will bring a "time bomb" to your health!

1. Disposable paper cups are the most deadly

Disposable paper cups look hygienic and convenient, but the product qualification rate cannot be judged. Some paper cup manufacturers add a lot of fluorescent whitening agents to make the cups look whiter. And this fluorescent substance can make cells mutate and enter the human body and become a potential carcinogen.

So don't drink water from disposable paper cups unless you have to. If there is really no way, it is recommended not to drink water from disposable paper cups. Drain the water after waiting for four or five minutes to evaporate the harmful substances.

2. Do not touch the cups that are "painted" on the inner wall

The color is like a poisonous mushroom, the brighter it is, the more poisonous it is, especially those whose inner walls are painted with glaze. When the cup is filled with boiled water or beverages with high acidity and alkalinity, the toxic heavy metal elements such as lead in these pigments are easily dissolved in the liquid and take the opportunity to enter the human body. It is recommended to choose light-colored cups such as white as much as possible when picking the cup pattern, and ensure that the inner wall must be the primary color, and it is better that there is no printing on the water-containing part!

3. Be careful of heavy metals when drinking coffee from metal cups

Metal cups, such as stainless steel, are more expensive than ceramic cups. The metal elements contained in the composition of enamel cups are usually relatively stable, but in an acidic environment, these metal elements may dissolve, and it is not safe to drink acidic beverages such as coffee and orange juice. When choosing a stainless steel water cup, be sure to look for a water cup made of 304 stainless steel. Generally speaking, 304 stainless steel will not cause harm to the human body.

4. Plastic water cups are easy to hide dirt

Plasticizers are often added to plastics, which contain some toxic chemicals. When filling hot or boiling water in plastic cups, toxic chemicals are easily diluted into the water. And the internal microstructure of plastic has many pores, which hides dirt, and it is easy to breed bacteria if it is not cleaned properly. Therefore, when purchasing a plastic cup, be sure to choose a water cup made of food-grade plastic that meets the standards.

"No. 1" (polyethylene terephthalate) PET bottle: beverage bottles cannot be recycled to hold hot water. This material is heat-resistant to 70°C and is only suitable for warm or frozen drinks. High temperature will release harmful materials. This plastic product may release carcinogens after 10 months of use. Therefore, it is recommended that this kind of cup be thrown away after use.

"No. 2" HDPE (High Density Polyethylene): It can withstand high temperature of 110℃ and can be used to hold food.

"No. 3" PVC polyethylene: No. 3 "polyvinyl chloride (PVC), this material can only be heat-resistant to 81 ℃, and a slight high temperature will release carcinogens, so do not buy this material water cup.

"No. 4" LDPE (low density polyethylene): Cling film, plastic film, etc. are all of this material, and the heat resistance is not strong.

"No. 5" PP polypropylene: Microwave tableware is made of this material, which is resistant to high temperature of 130°C and has poor transparency. This is a plastic that can be placed in a microwave oven and can be reused after careful cleaning.

"No. 6" PS (polystyrene): generally used in instant noodle boxes and foamed fast food boxes. This kind of material water cup cannot be used to hold strong acids (such as orange juice) and strong alkaline substances, which will decompose polystyrene that is not good for the human body.

"No. 7" PC other types of plastic products: mostly used in the manufacture of baby bottles, space cups, etc., because of the content of bisphenol A and controversial.

5. Ceramic cups painted without colored glaze are the safest

Ceramic cups painted with colorless glaze for drinking water, especially the inner wall should be colorless. Not only is the material safe, it can withstand high temperatures, but also has a relatively good thermal insulation effect. It is a good choice to drink hot water or tea.
